Harassment

Harassment is a major cause of conflict and TMGN is constantly looking at ways in which we can all best address this issue. We are engaging with the statutory bodies in the development of a pilot project to focus on how best to assist clients suffering harassment whether that is from ex partners, neighbours, police or criminal elements.

The people we have helped often feel they have nowhere to turn to when they ask for our help. In many cases advice and sign posting will suffice but many clients need on going support; TMGN supports clients for as long as the client values the help we offer.

Assisting Parents

TMGN has acted as a broker between parents, schools and the Local Education Authority in education exclusions cases where relationships had broken down between the parties involved. We have also actively supported parents where their children have been arrested or spent time in custody, providing support and advice at the time.

Community Empowerment

TMGN was instrumental in the formation of community groups that engaged with the Home Secretary, Rht Hon David Blunkett in a visit to Burngreave. He attended our public meeting 'stop the violence', which was profoundly relevant at that particular time.

TMGN has helped young male youths who have found themselves in trouble with the law. TMGN intervened in a major dispute in Burngreave, helping to diffuse a potentially volatile situation.

We organised a community sports initiative that was successful in gaining funding from Awards for all, South Yorkshire Police and Sport Network. To ensure success, we engaged with an array of agencies including:

The result was All Nations Football Tournament with several teams taking part. All the teams were seven-a-side but have now developed to the stage that there are plans for an eleven-a-side All Nations tournament in 2004.

TMGN has also assisted a wide cross section of the community in Sheffield that have status issues (asylum seekers, refugees). Working alongside The Refugee Council, we found a venue that the Kurdish youth could use, allowing them to come together and develop their ideas and aspirations.
